On Good Friday evening, one by one, the candles are extinguished in the Church, leaving the congregation in darkness and in silence as the tomb door is closing. Tenebrae means "shadows" and is distinctive for its gradual extinguishing of candles while a series of readings and reflective questions are recited. The Tenebrae Service is presented by some of the Confirmation students.
